Biography: Mae Lane-Karnas (they/them) is a teenager who loves Braille, math and the Nemeth code, and art. Mae has a host of visual challenges under the umbrella of Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) that cause them to function at the level of legal blindness, even though their acuities are typical. Mae co-organizes an ongoing CVI discussion group at Smith Kettlewell Eye Research Institute and has co-presented nationally to clinicians, scientists, inventors, educators, and medical students about their lived experience of CVI and the importance of non-visual access for all blind students, including CVIers. Mae has served as an NFBVT board member since 2023.

Biography:  I’m 41 years old, and have been married for 19 years.  I love U.S. history especially the year of our revolution, and the mountain man erra.  I am also an Eagle Scout, and I have a Associates degree in Liberal Studies. At this time I am Vermont’s only blind fencer.  I have been playing fiddle for over 20 years.  I also enjoy hunting, and black powder shooting with flintlock muzzle loaders.  I am also a historical accurate powder horn maker, and I sell my creations at historical events, and muzzle loading shoots. I especially enjoy spending time with my wife shooting, and attending different music events, and other outdoor activities.  I also have experience in training, and driving oxen.
